Bronze mirror is a practical product of combing and cosmetic surgery in the daily life of ancient people in our country. it has a long history of more than 4,000 years and has been made in all dynasties and generations. After the mercury mirror came out, it gradually stopped making. People like bronze mirrors, not only because they can take pictures on their smooth surfaces, but also because the conception theme on the back has artistic appeal. The implication and configuration of some decorative patterns on ancient bronze mirrors still have many mysteries that cannot be solved till now.

The form of the Tang dynasty bronze mirror has broken through the traditional circular pattern for thousands of years, and new mirror patterns such as rhombohedral, sunflower, quadrate and pedunculate have emerged. Although most of the mirror buttons are round, there are also beast - shaped buttons, turtle-shaped buttons, flower-shaped buttons, etc. The contents of the decoration are rich and colorful. all kinds of rare birds and animals, exotic flowers and grasses, fairy stories are cast on the back of the mirror. The layout of ornamentation is no longer restricted to the inner and outer regions, and there are many methods such as cross-region and overall high relief. Special new techniques of gold plating, silver pasting, gold and silver stripping, tomahawk and gem inlaid lamps appeared in the casting technique.

The development of the Tang dynasty bronze mirror was mainly due to the fact that porcelain had replaced copper at that time and the decline of bronze wares. bronze technology was concentrated on bronze mirrors. in addition, bronze mirrors were widely used in social contacts as gifts at that time. There is a scarcity in the Tang dynasty bronze mirror, some unearthed and some handed down from ancient times. After the prosperous Tang dynasty, flowers dominated, mostly auspicious patterns, were free and bold, fresh and lively, showing the vigorous and upward spirit of the Datang empire.
