Maybe historically but it doesn’t really matter. I think his problem is team wins. If you’re putting up big numbers and in the running for dpoy you will get votes assuming your team record is good enough

It also says a lot about how MVP is almost a popularity contest or a "it's his turn this year"type of deal.

Giannis is amazing and def a top candidate for MVP but I'd argue he's also getting a lot of "it's his turn"votes since that was the narrative coming into the season.

I don't know about "his turn", it was more "Hey he's amazing and he fills up the stat sheet, once he starts actually winning more games he'll be a serious candidate", and now that he's started winning more games outlets like ESPN are all too keen to anoint him the next big thing whether he's actually responsible for us winning all those games or not.
