课程介绍

The course is intended as an introduction for individuals who will make business decisions, evaluate business units, and evaluate others (or be evaluated) through the use of accounting systems. The course will be loosely divided into two topics: cost management systems and managerial control systems. Each topic is briefly described below.

Cost Management Systems:

The objective of the cost management system is to provide information about the costs of the goods and services sold by the firm. While financial accounting requires that product cost information be accumulated in particular ways for external reporting, the focus in the course will be on cost systems that aid managerial decision-making. We will start with a study of traditional cost systems still in widespread use today.

Managerial Control Systems:

The purpose of the second half of the course is to identify systems that have widespread use, examine the motivation for that use, and especially to identify how and when the misuse of these systems leads to dysfunctional outcomes for the firm. We will consider non-financial, operating measures in addition to financial measures of performance.

Behavioral Finance and its Applications

教师简介

Milo Bianch

Toulouse School of Economics

Professor Milo Bianch is from the Toulouse School of Economics.Professor Milo Bianchi's research interests include behavioral finance, fintech, home finance, corporate finance and start-ups.His research results have been published in Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Finance, Management Science, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of European Economic Association and other international a-class Economic and financial journals. His latest research focuses on fintech and behavioral finance models in individual investment decisions.

课程介绍

"Individual investors are required to take more and more decisions in various financial domains. Understanding their behavior has become of primary importance both for academics and policy makers. At the same time, textbook finance models have found a hard time in accommodating the substantial heterogeneity one can observe both in terms of decisions and in terms of outcomes. From a theoretical viewpoint, standard finance models may be enriched so as to better describe how investors process information, how they form beliefs, how they perceive risk. From an empirical viewpoint, we need a better understanding of which behavioral traits appear of first order importance to explain investment choices and market phenomena.

Behavioral finance studies how individual decisions can deviate in a systematic way from standard economic assumptions of perfect rationality. This course is intended to present and discuss with students the most recent developments in behavioral finance, with applications to corporate finance, financial markets, and household finance. We will start from classic contributions and then analyze these link with the rise of fintech."

课程介绍

Although the appropriate 'form' of financial analysis depends largely on the specific context (e.g. equity investment, credit extension, analysis of supplier/customer health, competitor analysis, regulatory overview or intervention, valuation for takeover/restructuring), many of the techniques of financial analysis are common to each. A primary purpose of this course is to develop an understanding of these techniques, as well as the inherent difficulties in their application. Specific issues addressed include the analysis of business performance and disclosure, the analysis of earnings quality, cash flow assessment, credit worthiness and accounting-based valuation methods.
