如夢令·昨夜雨疏風驟

【宋】李清照

昨夜雨疏風驟,

濃睡不消殘酒。

試問卷簾人,

卻道海棠依舊。

知否,知否?

應是綠肥紅瘦。

譯本1

To the Tune of Ru Meng Ling

By Li Qingzhao

Tr. by 楊憲益、戴乃迭

Last night the rain was light, the wind fierce,

And deep sleep did not dispel the effects of wine.

When I ask the maid rolling up the curtains,

She answers, "The crab-apple blossoms look the same."

I cry, "Can't you see? Can't you see?

The green leaves are fresh but the red flowers are fading!"

譯本2

Tune:"Like A Dream"

By Li Qingzhao

Tr. by 許淵衝

Last night the wind blew hard and rain was fine;

Sound sleep did not dispel the after taste of wine.

I ask the maid rolling up the screen.

"The same crab-apple tree," she says, "is seen."

"But don't you know,

O, don't you know.

The red should languish and the green must grow?”

Last night the wind was strong and rain was fine,

Sound sleep did not dispel the taste of wine.

I ask the maid who's rolling up the screen,

"The same crab-apple tree," she says," is seen."

"But don't you know,

But don't you know,

The red should languish and the green must grow?"

Ru Meng Ling

By Li Qingzhao

Tr. by 龔景浩

Last night the rain was scattered,

The gusts strong.

Deep slumber did not ease my hangover long.

I queried the one rolling up the blinds

And was told the flowering crabapples have kept their prime.

Do you know?

Do you know?

Now is the time when green should be corpulent

And red should be gaunt.

譯本4

Rumengling

Tr. by 徐忠傑

Last night was windy with intermittent rain.

I've slept sound; but the effects of drink remain.

I ask how the flowers are of the curtain-drawer,

She says, "Begonais are e'er as before."

"Don't you recognize it for a fact at all:

Now leaves should be large and flowers should be small?"

譯本5

Late Spring

—to the tune of Rumengling

Tr. by 茅於美

Last night, the raindrops fell sparsely,

The gusts of wind blew.

Deep sleep did not dispel the left-over taste of wine.

I asked my chambermaid as she rolled up my screen...

She replied: "The same begonias(1)are seen in the courtyard."

Don't you know, don't you know?

The green is getting thicker:

But the red is getting sparser.

(1)begonias:A tropical plant having showy crimson flowers. Li Qingzhao uses it as a symbol of Spring's splendor. When Spring changes to Summer, the begonia flowers wither away. The poet is concerned for their fate. The last two lines are particularly well known, for they describe the season's change through a terse contrast of colours: the green of the leaves representing Summer and the red of the flowers representing Spring.

譯本6

To the Tune "As Dreaming"

Tr. by 金於

There was a wild wind blowing with a light rain last night.

My sound sleep hasn't driven away the force of wine yet.

The maid answered my question about that crab-apple tree;

Rolling up the curtain, she said: "It remains all the same."

No, no, she is wrong, for the wild wind might have made

The red of blossoms weaker and the green of leaves stronger.

譯本7

Tune: Like a Dream

Tr. by Elisa

Fine rain and gusty wind prevailed last night

That tipsy feeling still lingered after the restful night

I asked my maid as she rolled up the window shade

The damage that the storm laid

Unexpectedly was her claim

That the begonia was still the same

Wouldn't you know?

Wouldn't you know?

The leaves should grow

The flowers should fade so

譯本8

A Dreamy Tune

Tr. by 鐵冰

Last night strong wind scattered the rain.

Now after sound sleep, tipsy I remain.

Asking my maid who rolls up the screen,

I'm told, "same as before the crabapple's seen."

"O, don't you know? Don't you know

With thicker green and thinner red she must grow?"

譯本9

Late Spring

—To the tune “Dreamlike Melody”

By Li Qing-zhao

Tr. by The Azuring Star (那顆晴空)

Last night, there was the pattering rain with sudden wind,

Sound sleep could not sober my residual drunkness.

I ask my maid who's rolling up the curtains,

While she tells me that the begonias stay the same.

"Don't you know ? don't you know ?

The green leaves are fresh yet red flowers not so."

譯本10

Crab-apples in Storm

By Li Qingzhao

Tr. by 曾衝明

There was a wild wind blowing with a light rain last night.

My sound sleep hasn’t driven away the force of wine yet.

About that crab-apple tree the maid answered my question;

Rolling up the curtain, she said: “It remains all the same.”

No, no, she is wrong, for the wild wind might have made weaker

The red of blossoms, as well as the green of leaves stronger.

譯本11

Tr. by Lucy Chow Ho

Sprinkling of rain,

A violent wind.

After a deep sleep, still not recovered

from the lingering effect of wine,

I inquired of the one rolling up the screen;

But the answer came: "The cherry-apple blossoms

are still the same."

"Oh, don't you know, don't you know?

The red must be getting thin,

while the green is becoming plump."

譯本12

Tr. by 無心劍

Last night rain sprinkled in wind so keen,

Sound sleep didn't melt the taste of wine.

I ask the maid who's uprolling the screen,

But she says, "as before is the caval vine."

"Alas! Don't you know? Don't you know?

Her red should fade yet green must grow."

譯本13

Tr. by Kenneth Rexroth

Last night fine rain, gusts of wind,

Deep sleep could not dissolve the leftover wine.

I asked my maid as she rolled up the curtains,

“Are the begonias still the same?”

“Don’t you know it is time

For the green to grow fat and the red to grow thin?”
