Some of the first words English students learn are "I" and "me." But even native English speakers do not always know which one to use in a sentence. In today's Ask a Teacher, Fernanda from Brazil gets right to the heart of the problem. Here is her question.

"I"和"me"是英語學習者首先會學到的一些單詞。然而即使是母語爲英語的人也不總是知道在句子中該選用哪個詞。在今天的問答節目中,來自巴西的Fernanda提出了問題的核心所在。下面是她的問題。

問題:

Sometimes I don't know when to use "I" or "me." For example, I want to tell someone that I made some food with a friend. How can I say it: "Monica and I made the food?" or "Monica and me made the food"? -Fernanda, Brazil

有時我不知道什麼時候用"I"或者"me"。例如,我想告訴別人我和一個朋友做了一些食物。我該怎麼說:"Monica and I made the food?"還是"Monica and me made the food?"

Answer:

回答:

Hello, Fernanda!

你好,Fernanda!

I can tell that you know to use the word "I" when you are the only subject of the sentence. You correctly wrote "I want..." for example. In this case, "I" is the subject and "want" is the verb.

我可以告訴你,當你是句子中唯一的主語時,你知道要使用"I"這個詞。例如,你準確地寫出了"I want..."。在這種情況下,"I"是主語,"want"是動詞。

But you are asking about a situation involving two people: you and your friend.

但是你詢問的情況涉及了兩個人:你和你的朋友。

Let's review what you already know to find the answer.

爲找出答案,讓我們回顧一下已知內容。

"I" is a subject pronoun. It refers to the person performing the action of a verb. Use "I" for the subject of the sentence.

"I"是主語代詞。它指執行動作的人。"I"作句子的主語。

"Me" is an object pronoun. It refers to the person receiving the action of a verb. Use "me" for the object of the sentence.

"me"是賓語代詞。它指動作的接受者。"me"作句子的賓語。

In your sentence about cooking, are you and your friend the subject or the object of the verb "made"? In other words, are you the ones making the food - or is the food making you?

在你說的關於製作食物的句子中,你和你的朋友是動詞"made"的主語還是賓語?換句話說,你們是在製作食物,還是食物在製作你們?

You are making the food, of course. So, the answer to your question is: "Monica and I made the food." In this sentence, the whole subject is "Monica and I."

當然,是你們在製作食物。所以,問題的答案是:"Monica and I made the food."在這個句子中,完整的主語是"Monica and I"。

subject pronouns

主語代詞

I, you, he, she, it, we, they

我,你/你們,他,她,它,我們,他們/她們/它們

object pronouns

賓語代詞

me, you, him, her, it, us, them

我,你/你們,他,她,它,我們,他們/她們/它們

Let's look at a few more sentences with "I" as part of the subject:

我們再看幾個"I"做主語的句子:

In September, Monica and Iare starting classes.

When can Monica and Ivisit the new museum?

九月份,Monica和我開始上課。

Monica和我什麼時候可以參觀新博物館?

And sentences with "me" as part of the object:

幾個"me"做賓語的句子:

What did you bring back for Monica and me?

David is giving Monica and mea ride to the airport.

你給Monica和我帶了什麼回來?

David正送Monica和我去機場。

How to decide

如何選擇

If you're still not sure whether to choose "me" or "I," try keeping just the pronoun. Listen:

如果你仍然不確定選擇"me"還是"I",那麼試着只保留代詞。請聽:

What did you bring back for Monica and I?

你給Monica和我帶了什麼回來?

You would not ask, "What did you bring back for I?" The correct way to form the question is: "What did you bring back for me?" Then you can just add the other person back to the sentence: "What did you bring back for Monica and me?"

你不會這樣問:"What did you bring back for I?"正確問法是:"What did you bring back for me?"然後你可以把另一個人加到句中:"What did you bring back for Monica and me?"
