今天我们接着来看第24课的“每课一句”。

一、课文原文

Lesson 24 It could be worse

I entered the hotel manager's office and sat down. I had just lost ₤50 and I felt very upset. 'I left the money in my room,' I said, 'and it's not there now.' The manager was sympathetic, but he could do nothing. 'Everyone's losing money these days,' he said. He started to complain about this wicked world but was interrupted by a knock at the door. A girl came in and put an envelope on his desk. It contained ₤50. 'I found this outside this gentleman's room,' she said. 'Well,' I said to the manager, 'there is still some honesty in this world!’

二、每课一句

Everyone's losing money these days.

英语中现在进行时大多都只是用来表示此刻正在发生的动作，但是当它与拼读副词或某些时间状语连用时，就会表示其他意思。

比如原文中的这句话，因为句子的时间状语为these days，意思是“这些日子；最近”，所以本句话要表达的不是此刻正在发生的动作，而是表示最近总是发生的情况。

再比如：

He is always talking in class.

这句话如果去掉频度副词always，就表示他此刻正在课上说话，但加上always之后，就表示：

他总是在课上说话。

而此刻他不一定就在说话。

所以，当现在进行时与频度副词或某些时间状语连用时，往往表示一种经常发生的事情或某人的经常性或习惯性行为。

三、更多拓展

...there is still some honesty in this world!

这句话可以作为套话来使用，即：

There is still some ... in this world. 这个世界还是有...的。

比如：

There is still some hope in this world. 这个世界还是有希望的。 There is still some love in this world. 这个世界还是有爱的。
