　　Driving

　　“薇”說：

　　有些人非常喜歡開車，喜歡踩油門享受速度(shift gear and stamp on the accelerator to feel the speed) ；而有些人因爲覺得自己反應慢 (slow to respond)、緊張、搞不清方向(can’t tell directions) 等而不喜歡開車；還有些人喜歡坐車，喜歡自己像公主、王子一樣被別人服侍的感覺(feel like a prince/princess; like to be served by others)。無論哪種情況，都是很好的話題素材。

　　Q1:Do you often travel by car? [Why/Why not?]

　　I often travel by car because many of my family members have driver’s licences. We frequently drive to and from schools, shopping malls, supermarkets and even restaurants. It is a convenient way to get around the city and promotes a high level of independence since we don’t need to wait for buses or subway trains.

　　Q2:When was the last time you travelled by car?[Why?]

　　The last time I travelled by car was last weekend to go to the shopping mall to meet my friends. My father drove me there and it took about twenty minutes from my home to the shopping centre. Not only did my father drop me off but he also picked me up, which was very helpful since I was carrying a few shopping bags on the way back home.

　　Q3:Is there a lot of traffic in your town/city? [Why/Why not?]

　　During rush hours, the traffic in my city is terrible and cars can pile up for several kilometres. There are more than five million cars in Beijingand not enough highways and roads to serve such a large number of vehicles. From time to time, the queues are extremely long to enter an intersection or exit onto a side road, making it a frustrating experience for many people.

　　Q4:Do you think everyone should learn to drive a car? [Why/Why not?]

　　Although driving is a survival skill in this day and age, not everyone should learn how to drive a car. For instance, elderly people may not have propervision or hand-eye coordination, whereas younger individuals might lack the sense of responsibility that comes with driving. These two age groups pose significant risks to other drivers and should not be on the roads.
