Comparison and complaint don’t help.。By taking this angle to look at individuals, I personally once had same feel as Hongkong cashier had and complained out of comparison, Fortunately and eventually, what I learned from reading books, thinking and precious experiences I had by travelling around the world stopped me from comparing and complaining.。

It has been more than 7 years since I came Hongkong last timeas tourist, this time however, I come here for business.

I was fully occupied during daytime, until yesterday I finally got a little time to have my dinner outside of office. Thanks to the latest technology, unlike I came here some 7-8 years ago, I can easily search and go to anywhere I want based via mobile GPS app (both Google and Baidu maps works pretty well here.)

I quickly located a restaurant and decided to go there by subway, everything went well after I finished my dinner with great satisfaction, the fish porridge was as delicious as I had many years ago, the service was also good.

The restaurant was just two subway stations distance away from my hotel, suddenly the idea "Why not WALKING back?"popped up in my mind. From my google map, it's just 2 km away, such a bit of cake me. (my pride as Marathon runner by the way).

The city hasn’t changed even after so many years, and after some 10 minutes’ walk away from a large subway station, I entered a grocery shop, and wandering here and there until I heard a fight between mainland tourists and cashiers.

I didn't know why, it took for a while to get the dispute louder and louder, and suddenly the Hongkong cashier busted out "You those mainlanders, get out of Hongkong! I am sick of you guys!"

Before I can get close to the cashier, the mainland tourists dropped what they wanted to buy and ran away.

The rest of walking became not as pleasant as I expected, and I don’t know why.

I heard people in Hongkong has becoming more and more sensitive on the economic gap they had with mainland. Back to 1980s, Hongkong GDP alone was the total sum of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou plus next 3-4 largest cities in China, however right now, Shenzhen alone had exceeded Hongkong since the year before last year, the gap is becoming larger and larger.

Not just Shenzhen, Singapore is also surpassing Hongkong in terms of both GDP and per capita.

The majority of Hongkong people haven't had any substantial income increase during the last years, and the real-estate prices are going up again. Life to them is really not as good as it was decades ago.

It’s also true and embarrassing that many mainlanders rushed into Hongkong to buy daily necessities such as milk powder, diaper, ... they bought in such large quantities that local people are hard to buy. This once was reported on news, also brought negative images and cause local people angry.

But comparison does help solve the issues?

Our society at large places great emphasis on comparison. From product to services to brands to people, from country to country and city to city … never ending.

Comparison is both tireless and tiring, it's also the trap of contrasting ourselves to others we generally know little or nothing. If the Hongkong cashier knew the poverty somewhere in mainland, she might feel much more lucky to live in Hongkong.

Real success is never measured by comparison,Hongkong demonstrated its economic miracle decades ago to the world, now we need to find out why it slowed down and caught up by mainland, Singapore. Comparison and complaint don’t help.

By taking this angle to look at individuals, I personally once had same feel as Hongkong cashier had and complained out of comparison, Fortunately and eventually, what I learned from reading books, thinking and precious experiences I had by travelling around the world stopped me from comparing and complaining.

Again, real success is never measured by comparison. Even further, there are just too many comparisons in existence, and we could spend a lifetime posturing ourselves against someone or something with underwhelming results and no real accuracy as to who we really are.

The only genuine measure of success in workis whether you add value, which is more "give" than "take", as long as your organization is healthy, you will be eventually paid off.

The only genuine measure of success in life, however is whether or not we are living our full potential of who we are regardless of how limited or great it looks like to others, how much get recognized by external world.

In other words, true success comes from operating in the fullness of our talent, abilities and God-given gifts.Ifyou don’t know what they are to you, start exploring yourself from tomorrow! No one else can help you on that.

You lose pace when you compare and complain, and life is a pace, NOT a race.
