薛立新導師：both和all的用法區別

一、both 指兩個人或物，可構成“both…and… ( 兩者都…… ) ”句型；all 指三個或三個以上的人或物。例如：

1．There are many trees on ＿＿＿ sides of the road．

A．either B．both C．each

2．My full name is Jim Allen Green．Green is my family name．

＿＿＿ of my other names were given by my parents．

A．All B．Some C．Each D．Both

3．＿＿＿ of the students in our class wantto go to plant trees．

A．Either B．All C．Neither D．each

4．He has got two pens，and ＿＿＿ of them are expensive．

A．both B．either C．each D．every

二、要注意 all 和 both 在句中的位置，它們兩個都用於 be 動詞之後，實義動詞之前。例如：

5．My parents ＿＿＿ fine．What about your family？

A．both are B．all are

C．are all D．are both

6．They are all students．他們都是學生。

7．We both study English．我們倆都學英語。

三、both 作主語時，謂語動詞用複數，當 all 作主語時，表示“整體事物”，其後謂語動詞應用單數；表示“所有的人 ( 物 ) ”，謂語動詞用複數。例如：

8．He answered two questions and both were right．

他回答了兩個問題並且都正確。

9．All has gone well．一切進展順利。

10．All are here．大家都來了。

四、both 和 all 在否定句中並不表示全部否定，而表示部分否

定，要表示全部否定，要用它們相對應的詞：both 的全部否定詞

爲 neither，all 的全部否定詞爲 none。例如：

11．Mr black has two danghters．＿＿＿ of them is a doctor．

12．Theyareallverytired，but ＿＿＿ ofthemwouldtakearest．

13．All the teachers do not live in this street．
