The unprecedented decision, which still must be approved by Defense Secretary Mark Esper, follows the resignation of acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly, who had publicly criticized Crozier for how he handled a coronavirus outbreak on his ship.

羅斯福號航空母艦（英文：USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71，譯文：西奧多·羅斯福號航空母艦，簡稱：羅斯福號航母），是20世紀80年代美國建造的尼米茲級航空母艦的4號艦。

羅斯福號航空母艦雖隸屬於尼米茲級航空母艦，但由於從該艦開始的七艘同級艦與前三艘航母，在性能規格上較大幅度的改進，包括在艦身兩舷處設有隔艙系統，機庫、彈藥庫等重要部位的頂部和兩側裝有63.5毫米厚的凱夫拉裝甲加強防護，排水量增加5000噸，喫水增加至11.8米等。雖然該艦改進幅度大，但美國官方仍然將其歸爲尼米茲級航空母艦。

羅斯福號航空母艦於1981年開始建造，於1984年下水，1986年10月25日正式服役。

2020年4月11日，羅斯福號航母上的新冠肺炎確診人數累計達到了550人。
