《博物要览》记载，金丝者出川涧中，木纹有金丝；楠木之至美者，向阳处或结成人物山水之纹。金丝楠木质坚硬耐腐，自古有“水不能浸，蚁不能穴”之说，因此被称为“木中皇帝”。金丝楠木隶属中国名贵木材，主要产于我国四川、云南、贵州及长江以南省区。据记载，在所有的金丝楠木中，四川的金丝楠木材质最佳。金丝楠木是宝贵的不可再生资源，属国家二级保护植物，相传在明末就已经濒临灭绝，历经千百年流传至今，已经极其稀少。
